Get Involved

The Read-A- Long program is run by Rotarians and totally voluntary. We survive on the generosity of our sponsors, partners and readers. You can become involved in many different ways; either through sponsorship or the giving of your time to read to a class of children.

WHY?
Literacy levels affect a person’s employment and income, health, self-confidence, parenting skills, and participation in community life.

1. Sponsorship
The Read-a-Long program leaves approximately $3,000 worth of books in the library of each school that we visit. It will come as no surprise therefore that, as our first priority, we are seeking funding.

Corporate Sponsorship can occur at different levels:

2. Reading
Possibly the most rewarding lunchtime you can have. Sign up to read a book to a class. Without exception, readers have found the experience both fun and enriching and are eager to sign up for more. Go to the Schedule page to find a school and a date that suits you.

3. Organizing
Whether you are a Rotarian or not we are always in need of volunteers to run the program. You might get involved with book recycling, school liaison or press coverage – whatever interests you. Contact us to find out how to apply you skills.
